Description
Very nice katana done by Yakuwa Yasutake. He is one of the last Yasukuni Shrine smiths, and was well regarded even after the wartime. He is noted for his great skill obtained while he was working at the shrine smithy, and has achieved many awards after the war. There is much information about him in the Yasukuni book by Tom Kishida, which is a very nice book about Yasukuni shrine blades. About the blade, this sword shows the extent of Yasutakes skill, when not restrained by the parameters established during the war at the shrine. This sword surpases any of those made by him during the wartime years. Long and wide, a very strong sugata, Yasutake also created a very nice aggressive nie deki choji midare with lots of ashi and sunagasshi. The choji shape is very nice, with long ashi. The boshi is very strong and clear. The grain pattern is a nice itame masame mixed with ji nie. The sword exhibits all the characteristics very well due to a very high level polish. A deep bohi runs the length of the blade and is cut very well. For its size, the sword has a very nice balance even though it is wide and long. This too is a sign of a skilled maker. In a top level shiorasaya and a very nice top quality gold foiled habaki. All we can say is that this is a really nice blade and any collector could appreciate having this sword in their collection.
